Social Events/Fundraising

Chapter Social – The Spring Brunch is scheduled for Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Pennsauken Country Club.  The speaker will be John Colaneri from America’s Most Desperate Kitchens (HGTV Network).  Cost $35 per adult and $15 per child.  Dave Hulbert contacted the office of Tina Hay, Editor of the Penn Stater to be a speaker at our 2018 social.  Ms. Hay is available in the spring of 2018.  Dave Hulbert will contact her office 6 months prior to schedule.

Lapel Pins – Awaiting the arrival of the 100 lapel pins we ordered to sell.

THON Event – The event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15, 2017 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (snow date February 22, 2017) at PJ Whelihan’s in Cherry Hill.  The cost is $20 per person.

Freshman Send-Off – Nothing to report at this time.

Christmas Party – The event date is December 10, 2016.  Lt. Christina is our new contact. The DJ and Santa have been scheduled for the party. We plan on having face painting again. Laurie Satton will see if the Phillies Phanatic is available to make an appearance. Gift ideas discussed were fleece throw blankets and hat and gloves.  Boscovs may be willing to sell items at a reduced price. Discussed the budget, we spent $6859 in 2014 and $7303 in 2015.  We have a balance of $5207.09 in the current account. We also need to reach out to Shop Rite, Trader Joe’s, BJs, Hoagie Place, Sam’s and the Pretzel Company for donations. Matt Kirk will email the board members the tax exempt letter to present to the businesses for donations for the Christmas party.  Discussed looking at the cost of the DJ, since it seemed high, to see if the balloon performer was included in her fee.

Newsletter/Webpage/Social Media – All have been updated.

Community – Nothing to report at this time.

Marketing/Publicity/Advertising – Unable to get in touch with Marcie due to a change in her email address.

Scholarships – Nothing to report at this time.

Old Business

Football Bus Trip – We had 30 people for the Homecoming game and we broke even.

Football Ticket Raffle – There is a correction in the amount raised, the total is $310 not $410, which will be split with Montgomery County Chapter for a profit of $155 not $205 per chapter. The final report was sent to the State.

Student Bus Trip – We have received 10 checks and 2 inquiries thus far. We need 40 students to schedule the bus trip. We are extending the deadline until October 31, 2016.  If we are unable to provide this service a flash-drive along with reimbursement will be sent to those who paid. We will also provide information regarding the MegaBus.

Fund Drive for Scholarships – Dave Hulbert has reached out to Amber for artwork available to kick-off this endeavor. One idea was to have the Nittany Lion looking towards Penn State from New Jersey.  We will need to advertise this project on Facebook, Twitter, and by sending letters and emails to help increase donations toward our scholarship fund. John Ungvarsky and his wife will donate $1000 for every $4000 donated. It was suggested we look into a GoFundMe account and advertise our progress on line with a thermometer measuring the donations with the Nittany Lion climbing up the side.

Game Watching Parties  – The Purdue game on October 29, 2016 is at 12:00 noon.  Since PJ Whelihan’s corporate headquarters only allows the sound to be put for pro football games we will have this game watching party at Chili’s on Church Road and Rt 73. They have Saturday specials and we can reserve the bar area.  We are still waiting for the start time for the Indiana game on November 12, 2016.

Hockey Game – The event is on January 28, 2016, when purchasing tickets use the drop down box and check off our alumni association and we will receive $5 per ticket sold.  Information is on Facebook.

Election of Board Members – Nominations for board positions for next two years will be conducted at the November meeting.

New Business

Six Flags – They are offering discounts for alumni members for Halloween and Christmas events at the park.

Men’s Basketball Game – The team is playing Michigan on January 7, 2017 at Palestra in Pennsylvania.  The game may be sold out. Laurie Satton will contact Coach Chambers’ assistant to see if there are any extra tickets available. Bill Kolodi will check with his contacts for tickets and Matt Kirk will check with the Philadelphia Chapter for tickets.

Correspondence

None.

Good of the Organization

We are at Elm status once again.
