Treasurer’s Report

Report was reviewed and approved.

We have received a letter verifying our chapter at a non-profit status.  The Penn State Alumni Association is a tax-exempt organization and we have been given an EIN number.  If anyone makes a donation over $250 please let Matt Kirk know so he can obtain a special letter for tax purposes.

Social Events/Fundraising

Chapter Social – The Spring Brunch is scheduled for Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Pennsauken Country Club.  The speaker will be John Colaneri from America’s Most Desperate Kitchens (HGTV Network).  Cost $35 per adult, $16 per child.  We will discuss price of child further.

Bracelets – We sold $300 worth of jewelry at the Freshmen Send-Off. We still have some bracelets left but will not make anymore.  Laurie Satton presented a new item, lapel pins, to sell.  The lapel pins are about one inch in length and will be the lion’s paw print with PSU in the middle. We can get 100 pins for $700 and sell them one for $12 or 2 for $20 in order to make a profit minus the shipping cost.  The person who will make the lapel pins is checking with Penn State to make sure there will not be a copyright issue.  Committee agreed to purchase 100 lapel pins.

THON Event – The event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15, 2017 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (snow date February 22, 2017) at PJ Whelihan’s in Cherry Hill.  The format is similar to the previous year, buffet, raffle and movie.  The cost is $20 per person.

Freshman Send-Off – We had a good turnout with positive feedback.

Christmas Party – The tentative date is December 10, 2016.

Newsletter/Webpage/Social Media – We received funds from Penn State Alumni Association for yearly costs.

Community – Nothing to report at this time.

Marketing/Publicity/Advertising – Nothing to report at this time.

Scholarships – We received a few thank you notes from scholarship recipients.

Old Business

Football Bus Trip – In regards to the Maryland game Matt Kirk will follow-up with Bill Kolodi and post information on the website, Facebook and email to the board members.  There are 8 tickets left.

Football Ticket Raffle – A total of $410 was raised ($90 from donations) which will be split with Montgomery County Chapter for a profit of $205 per chapter. Winners were notified and posted on the website.

Student Bus Trip – We have received 1 check so far and 1 request for details.   It was suggested an email be forwarded to all parents who attended the Freshmen Sendoff.  The deadline to determine if we can provide this service is October 18, 2016.

New Business

Game Watching Parties  – The last game watching party was at PJ Whelihan’s in Cherry Hill since Champps closed. There were about 25 people there and only 3 board members attended.  Business cards were given to new people.  Our next game watching parties will be on October 29 and November 12, 2016 at PJ Whelihan’s. We really need more people to attend.  Dave Hulbert suggested Ramblewood Country Club in Marlton for a possible location.  Ron Jaworski purchased the business which has been renovated and is open to the public.  Dave Hulbert will get information.

Liberty Ball – The event is scheduled for February 25, 2017. Tickets can be purchased at libertyball.org.

Correspondence

None.

Good of the Organization

We are among the top 3 highest Alumni Associations with scholarship funds. Connecticut is #1 (with approximately $30,000 ahead of us), we are #2, and Metro DC is closely behind us at #3.  We discussed an on-line fundraising drive to help increase our status to #1. We can advertise “we are #2 let’s make us #1” etc.  Matt Kirk and Dave Hulbert will develop a letter/flier to send to all emails for donations.
